In addition to providing customery police service to the community, Copperas Cove's
Police Department provides the local school district with resource officers and
conducts the City's Crime Stoppers Program. The department also offers a variety
of crime prevention programs through its Community Services Division, including
crime prevention inspections of residential homes for reduction of insurance premiums,
in an effort to better serve the senior citizen community of Copperas Cove, SALT
(the Seniors and Law Enforcement Council) was organized to bring the polic and local
seniors closer together.
The local community is greatly benefited by the presence of Fort Hood's Military Police. The Military Police pioneered the D.A.R.E. programs in local schools and have been very successful in the areas of drug awareness and drug resistance education with community children.
The City is committed to providing progressive fire and emergency
medical services to its citizens. This commitment is evident through the efforts
of the Fire Department and the City's favorable Class Five fire
classification from the Insurance Service Organization (ISO.)
The Fire Department makes its home in three separate fire stations that provide the community with services ranging from responding to fire and EMS calls to providing free blood pressure checks to the public.
The Copperas Cove Public Library, part of the Central Texas Library System, one
of ten created by the Texas Legislature, is located in the heart of Copperas
Cove between City Hall and the City’s main fire station.
There is a separate room just for kids, containing over 5,000 easy books. The Summer Reading Program is offered each summer as well as weekly scheduled Baby and Toddler programs.
The 19,250 square-feet Bauhaus-style structure is home to diversified collections of over 60,000 volumes.
Fiction, nonfiction, mystery, westerns, science fiction, movies, audio books, large print books, short stories, and much, much more ... over 48,000 volumes in the current collection and growing daily!
The Library is committed to serving the diverse community through full access to information, entertainment and lifelong learning. The Library provides access to books, magazines, periodicals, DVDs, CDs and other materials for loan. The library provides public meeting spaces and computers available to the public as well as wireless Internet access.
The Copperas Cove Library produces many family programs annually including story-times, book discussion, and many others.
The City of Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of activities for all ages. The City has seven well-maintained and scenic parks for the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors. The parks range in size from small neighbord parks to an 88-acre park and a 218-acre nature preserve.
The Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful Commission is active in many beautification
projects each year. The Commission has also helped educate the public on the
importance of recycling and being environmentally aware. Since the commission
was formed, it has participated in the Governor’s Community Achievement Award
(GCAA) competition. The winner of the competition receives a $95,000 landscape
grant to be used for beautification of the City; every year KCCB has placed in
the top 90% in its category.
